Also is Jan 2008 a good time to go as would like it hot and is it better to book hotels (4-5*) from UK or when we get there? And if anyone knows any contacts/sites to put together an itenary.

All help appreciated.

Hi there

My son is off to Thailand next year for a holiday.

Take a look at the following websites

travelmood

travelbag

tripadvisor

I would book your hotels from the UK and the hotels out there are by far better than any in the UK. I would go for 4-5 star.

depends on your budget but if you can fly Thai Airways.

I would do something like this:

London - Bangkok....(3 nights) visit the temples, floating markets and do a dinner cruise as well as visiting the elephant's!

Then maybe consider flying to an island such as Krabi or Ko Phi Phi...stunning relaxing beaches with some good bars.

def go here

www.tigertemple.org

www.tigertemple.co.uk

in kanchanbanui near bridge over river kwai

no little kids, no perfume or colonge at all or sented deorderant, or over bright colours.

def better hotels there.

a lot cheaper and lots of them... however avoid thai TAT travel agents where you can and go via offical bus/coach stations and train stations

pAttaya is more for single blokes looksing for gogo bars... not much else.

Krqbi has those rocks comming out of the water like in 007 man with golden gun

Kho Toh for scuba diving

Koh phanlyang (spelling wrong) for full moon parties

i can for sure help. just put question on here.me im of again soon.alone get many thai conntact to help. friends only. off to cambodia again too, alone? well upto you contact me on. stu2march@hotmail.co.uk. then we can have a one to one private chat.. okay? as for rooms ,food travel, thai way , saftey ecet, ect ,ect. or stu2march@yahoo.com

less than two or three weeks is not enough for a thailand holiday.

do you want to see beaches or cities? nationalparks or temples?

for a beach holiday: fly to ko chang (trat) with http://www.bangkokair.com

good sites for booking a hotel are:

Edit:

in samui it's rainy season in january.

Hi, Jan will still be the cool season in Thailand actually. It will not get hot till after Feb. So you may still find it pleasant.

Having seen the prices of travel packages from UK before, I will suggest that you book your travel in Thailand. You will be surprised at the price difference compared to booking from the UK.

Sites to get room, I find the followings to have better deals most of the time: http://www.asiarooms.com & http://www.directrooms.com. Just book rooms and get the tours from any agency either at the hotel itself or nearby tour agency.

For your 10 days itinerary, I will suggest the following:

Day 1 - Arrival and check in. Time permitting do a half day city and half day river cruise.

Day 2 - Grand Palace Tour and Emerald Buddha Temple tour. You can include Wat Po as it is nearby and go for a traditional massage there. This is the centre for Thai traditional massage. Time permitting, head to Vimanmek Mansion for a visit too. The Grand Palace tour will provide you with cpomplimentary entry to the mansion.

Day 3 - Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and Rose Garden Cultural and Elephant show.

Day 4 - Ayutthaya tour. If you like, you can do this as a river tour. Travel by coach to Ayutthaya and visit the ancient city and cruise along the river back to Bangkok.

Day 5 - Chatuchak Weekend Market, a must visit for the sight and sales. Night time, will be Suan Luum Night Bazaar for more shopping.

Day 6 - If shopping is on your plan, will be Mahboon Khrong Centre or MBK as it is usually known. Nearby will be Siam Paragon with its Siam Water World, the largest in the region. Also Siam Square for more unique items.

If you want to sight see, then a visit to Safari World to be close to animals would be good. The other option will be Dusit Zoo.

Night time, have a relaxing and light moment at Calypso Cabaret to watch a tiffany show. Family friendly too.

Day 7/8 - Take a coach tour to Kanchanaburi to visit the bridge over River Kwai and the JEATH Museum. If you like, you can even make this an overnight stay at one of the many riverhouses along the river. Indulge in a little different experience. There is Erawan Park national Park and waterfalls to visit too.

day 9 - You might want to take it easy and relax and do your shopping before you head home. Take a trip to Pratunam and/or Bo Bae Tower for some clothes buying. At low prices which drop even lower if you buy many pieces. Also Chidlom Fashion Mall for more up-to-date fashion.

Time permitting, a trip to Chinatown for more shopping and dining.

Well, the program can be mixed and matched to your schedule, but I guess you will have a full schedule ahead for you.

u can go to Koh Samui its a very nice island its alive & u will have soo much fun there particularly Chaweng beach & from there u can go to Koh Tao for diving & snorkling.

visit this website http://samui.sawadee.com/

the weather in Jan is fantastic.

good luck

Visit, Wat Po, The Royal Palace, the floating Market. There is loads to see in Bangkok.

Get the bus to Kanchanaburi (an hour or so out of bangkok) and visit The Bridge over the River Kwai, Jeath Museam and war cemetaries.

Get the train to Ayutthaya, which used to be the capital of Thailand until the Burmese raized it to the ground. Loads of historic Wats to visit and well worth it. You can then continue on the train up to Chang Mai.

No idea but I wouldn't brag about going to Thailand, people might think you're a pervy sex tourist. hahahha

Hi there, I would do Bangkok for 2 days/nights, so you can do the sights such as temples, markets etc.

Then go to somewhere like Phuket or Phi Phi for the remainder. Here is a good site to look at hotels:-

The part I enjoyed most about thailand was when we went by bus to ayutthaya and came back to bangkok on a boat via the chaopraya river (river of kings). In bangkok, the prime properties are the ones on the river so you get to see the houses of royalty, the embassies, etc as you cruise along the river. Food catered by shangri-la was plentiful throughout the cruise. It starts with a buffet lunch and then dessert then cookies then ice cream... This day trip was organized by shangrila bangkok and you book it through them.

I stayed at the penninsula bangkok. Service was unbelievable. The rooms were wonderfully luxurious. The buffet breakfast at the hotel was extensive. Service was sooo good that your coffee never gets cold and every time you stand up they re-fold your napkin. The amazing part about this was that the hotel was full and service was still impeccable.

The hotel also operates a ferry service (using old rice junks) from one side (hotel side) of the river to either the sky train station or their lounge across the river (beside shangri-la hotel). We were told that guests usually get stuck in traffic on the bridge crossing the river so if you use the ferry to cross the river, you can avoid the traffic. The lounge on the other side is very comfortable and a member of the hotel staff is there to answer questions or to tell to your taxi driver where you want to be dropped off, etc.

If you want to book your rooms online, this website is pretty reliable. www.asiarooms.com
