Depends on where you're staying and just how much and what kind of partying you're up for.
All approx in AUD$
Beer is $2 a bottle
1 bottle Mekong Whiskey & 2 mixers + ice bucket = $4
local street food about $1 per dish
local restaurant about $4 per dish
comfortable foreigner restaurant with western food about $8-10 per dish
taxi's - bargain hard but 10 minute ride about $3-5
cigarettes local $1 imported $3
boat trips and diving also vary depending on where you buy it but will average $15-30
Good idea is to hire a moped (but always carry your d/licence & wear helmet). They drive same side of road as in Oz - but slightly more erratically! You can then get to see all the beaches on the island. Costs about $8 per day.
The best restaurants in the best hotels will set you back $25-45 per meal - but thats only if you wanna treat yourself!
If you work on $50-60 per day you will probably come back with change - if you dont spend it on shopping.
Not hard to use Thai money but hard to remember what the exchange rate is.
They have the following denominations all Baht (They are printed with Arabic numeral)
1000 (36AUD)
500 (18AUD)
100 (3.6AUD)
50 (1.8AUD)
20 (.72AUD)
10 (.36AUD)coin
They have other but they are unimportant.
The shopping in Phuket is terrible. you'd be better of in Pattaya or Bangkok and there are some really good handicraft prices up north in Chiang Mai.
As for money you can get by on 50 AUD but 100AUD good time to 200AUD great time.
you'll get used to it, dont worry too much about it, about how much money will u need? i am not sure, sometime after the 3 or 4 days in phuket, u felt u seen it all, and u feel its a waste of time beach bumping then u might need to move over to other places. so it depends wat u want, alcohol is quite cheap similar to australia.
It's depend what you want, if you want anything may be more money needed
5000 AUD, shopping, eating great seafoods, flying around, drinking good wine.
Or if you're really pretty, probably none. Boys pay for you.
