How much money should I take on holidays to thailand, how much do you take?

Im not backpacking or anything i just want to be able to buy watever I want and have enough cash not to worry. Iv got 9 days all up in phuket and Bangkok. Everything is paid for just need spending money wat do u guys think? Will 2000 Au be enough

Assumed that your hotel booked and paid with breakfast included.

You need cash for lunchs and dinners, and foods in Thailand are cheap and exotic. Approximately, baht 500/day for meals is more than enough.

Some other expenses depend on you what you want to buy and carry back home. If you don't buy so many expensive things, 2000 Au pocket money is enough for 9 days in Thailand.

Please take a good care of your purse. There are hundread thousand of people from neighbouring countries work and live in Thailand. Some of those people living on picking pocket.

Don't wear or show off valuable things no matter where you are in Thailand.

Have a good time

I usually take around $1000USD per week in Travelers Cheques ($100 Cheques). I always bring a credit card along for emergency cash. I spend on average 3000THB per day for food, shopping, and entertainment - same days its only 200THB some days it 10,000THB...

Budgeting $1000/week usually covers everything for me - I have always come home with money still in my pockets.

But it all depends on what you plan to do once you get there. Your 2000AUD will bring you more than 58500THB or 6500+THB per day. For most people I know that is plenty of money but if you are a big shopper and like to buy very expensive things - the Siam Paragon Mall in BKK will eat through that amount of money in no time. The last time I was in BKK the top floor in the Siam Paragon had the Ferrari Dealer, Lamborghini Dealer, Bentley Dealer, etc... I'm more the type to buy a $100USD Armani or Versace suite from a Thailand tailor than buying the 'real' thing... ;-)

(Note: You will get a better exchange rate walking into any of the many banks or money changers in Thailand than you will get at home - at least that is my experience in the USA).

Lets see, 2000 Au$ is around 59,000 Thai baht or 6000 Thai baht per day - that's pretty good! I get by with around 1000 baht per day and shoot for less! (This includes a cheap A/C hotel too!)

This means you are rich! Unless you intend to spend all of your money on real Gucci fahions and a real Rolex, or some other real expensive stuff - every day - you should do pretty well!

You did mean 2000 Au$ for only 9 days - right? This is almost $200 U.S. per day and your hotel is already paid for! You will have a ball- unless you can "feel the pea under the mattress" type of person!

Good luck.

Happy spending!
