My dad is going to thailand for a holiday, i've heard you can get stuff really cheap over there, what are...

what are the best deals and bargains to look out for while he is on holiday.

Suits, women, gifts, food

T-shirts! Lots of choices at decent prices.

You can get knock-off Rolex Watches and brand name items but you also have a possibility of having them confiscated when you return through your country's customs checks.

Locally made paintings, carvings, souvenir "been there" mementos and other handcrafts.

You can pick up DVD movies and pirated software but this stuff may cause some problems when you return home through customs because of license infringements. Some movies may not play on your home video players or the software doesn't work right.

Computers may not be any cheaper than what you can get in your home country, depends on where you are from if they are bargains! Computers loaded with pirated or phony software may not get necessary upgrades form the "real" manufacturer.

Some warranties on electronic items may not be recognized in a different country.

Any breakable stuff can be wrapped in the souvenir T-shirts that you buy to lessen damage when you bring them home. You can use the local post office, UPS FedEx and other shipping companies to send stuff home for you.

Some people think they can get a good deal on gems but you really have to know what you are doing. Lots of scams involving selling phony or low value gems!

Remember some things you bring back may have to be declared on your customs forms!

Easiest things to bring back are lots of digital photos!

You can get almost anything there cheap......lots of copies especially clothes, watches, dvd, cd, belts, hats, shoes, beads, jewelery, paintings, crafts, antiques, lighters, socks, jocks, but remember nothing is cheap unless you haggle like crazy for it.

Best bet is to head over to the MBK Centre just off Siam Square. Here, your dad will be able to get hold of a whole host of stuff. Diesel jeans are a great bet here. But make sure you give your dad your waist and leg measurements because they cut them up to fit.

The top few floors are a great place to pick up tshirts and fake shirts. You can also pick up a fake branded rucksack/holdall to carry it all.

The fake watches aren't really worth spending money on - they generally fall apart after a few months - I've bought loads and never really been happy.

If its gadgets you're after then there's a great electronics centre not too far from Siam square. You just have to get your dad to take a tuk tuk and ask for the electronics centre. They'll all know what he means.

Best thing i ever got was glasses and prescription sunglasses but this is someting you won't be able to get your dad to buy for you. But perhaps he could get some for himself!

you can pick up loads of prostitutes for only a few bat

If you want knock-off watches do not go to Patpong, MBK, and other places a lot of tourist goes. I recommend going to Yaowarat in China Town, specifically Charoen Krung Rd, watches there are cheaper and I think better quality knock offs than MBK.

For DVDs, games, and electronics Sapan Lek or Fortune Rama 9 in China Town, for clothing Pratunam and for souvenirs JJ Market and Suan Lum Night Bazzar.
