Thailand can offer nice beaches but as for awesome nightlife for 23 year old.....I don't think this is the right place for you. Better come back 30 years later. I am sure you will enjoy. If you don't believe, go and see by yourself, especially Pattaya where I love most.
Why not come to Thailand for their awesome culture, history, and nature, but for night life?

You will love it we have friends that go back year after year, go to Phuket (short flight)or Pataya an hour and a bit by car, transfers can be arrange at Bangkok airport you will love the easy going life, the beach all the paragliding, etc. there are speed boats and slow boats to take you to the different islands, tourist trip will take you to a tiny island with 20 others(approx) and let you have three or four hours on the beach..........wonderful sea and snorkel ling opportunities.
Bars and restaurants at night you are spoiled for choice and the food is fantastic, round of the evening with a wonder full Thai massage or if less adventurous a mind blowing foot massage. Flights need booking early as they get very full but there are some great deals out just now, contact a reliable travel agents.
if you just want to party all day/night go pattaya,loads of cheap deala avaliable.
for better tourst beaches go phuket,but there is still a big nighttime scene in patong.

Maybe you should go the the Full Moon Party held every month. It's on Koh Phanagan. Take the cat over from Koh Samui.
If you go in Feb or March, up to 10,000 party goers take over the beach
Ohhhh man, Thailand is a blast! Be warned though, they have cracked down quite a bit in the last few years (ID checks, curfews, etc. etc.) but they still have it all and it's on the cheap.

Three lads, 23 years old could have the most fun of their young lives in Bangkok or it could be the worst adventure ever. Everything is readily available but to get out in one piece it must be enjoyed in moderation. You'll see things here you won't see anywhere else in the world but the temptation to overdue it and do things that are dangerous and stupid will confront you daily. Can you set responsible limits as to your behavior in the areas of sex, drugs, alcohol and rock and roll? Can you spend money wisely? Can you obey the laws of the land you're entering into and respect different people and cultures? If you can do these things then come prepared for the best and wildest time of your life.
Be careful you are not mistaken for sex tourists or paedophiles. Those ratan canes used for flogging must hurt like hell!
Then Philippines should be the place for you. Head to Olongapo or Subic Bay for the bars and beach.

Try Lamai on Koh Samui,Pattaya near Bangkok,or Patong in Phuket.At the end of every month there is a full moon party on Koh Phanghan.....The mother of all raves on Hat Rin beach
Be warned though don't have anything to do with illicit substances,if caught it'll cost you 30000 bht per policeman to look the other way.3 lads in thailand are a prime target for customs on the way out,so take EXTREME care with your bags
It's the oldest trick to plant a little on you and inform customs when you walk through,the real courier goes through unchecked.If you can ideally don't have any bags,t shirts shorts and gear like that are pennies in thailand
