I know this is such a broad question with too many possibilities... but it's my first time in Thailand and I'm just going for a couple of weeks at the start of May. I know it's meant to be unbearably hot so I don't think I'm going to spend more than a couple of nights in Bangkok.
What I'm after... Island life, amazing beaches and isolated lagoons, also..being in my 20s... I want to know where to go and meet other young people and party! Ideally i would also like to stay away from package holiday type places... what is your favourite island etc? good bars? or any general advice! anyway if you've been and you had a good time, share what you know!
Many thanks indeed!
Sam
If you're flying into Bangkok, I'd probably go to Pattaya (yuck, sleazyest place in all Thailand, location of Walking St which is Prostitution central, be prepared for a shock).... or Ko Chang a bit further along, a virtually unspoilt no-tourist area...
Then back to Bangkok, up to Chiang Mai for sure, it's mountain area but unmissable, believe me, I had trepidations about going there but was fantastic, tigers, best markets and adventure await...
Kanchanaburi for a night....
Then down the South end for all the beachy things, check out Ko Pha Nang, Koh Samui and Phuket
Best Hotels: Marriott Resort Bangkok, Dream Hotel Bangkok, and a $20 per night hotel called Phranakorn-Nornlen Hotel, it's so nice! but you need to book far in advance cause everyone else knows it too....
Chiang Mai: Fern Paradise, best advice- order at the outdoor restaurant area on the banks of the river, the owner will set up a banquet under the lights, it's unbelieveable
Pattaya- Rabbit Resort, fantastic staff
I'd do a river temple tour on your first day, visiting Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and Reclining Buddah (beware, these places are packed with touts who are dressed very officially who will tell you the place is closed or your trousers aren't long enough- you can rent trousers from the temples if need be, ignore these con artists.
Check out Kao San Road for best shopping, and Chatuchak Market, visit the Sky Bar for a cocktail and best view of the city.
For ping pong shows and rolex ripoffs, head to PatPong night market.
Pattaya has paintball and jetskiing, go karts
Chiang Mai- Tiger Parks where you can play with cubs, Xtreame sports center where you can bunjee jump, go kart, paint ball, dirt bike, 4 wheelers, zorb ball (climb into an inflatable ball and roll down a hill) all sorts. Fantastic markets and Zoos, elephant rides etc.
Kanchanaburi: Organise a day tour, visit Erwan Waterfall an hour before they suggest and you'll have the whole place to yourself to swim in the falls before a truckload of tourists start overcrowding the place at around 9 (the water will still be warm at 8am). Death Railway and bridge over river Kwai, Tiger temple where you can pat massive tigers, etc. I'd recommend staying in a floating hotel on the river.
Any more advice needed, contact me ericasowter1@yahoo.com
I've never been down the south, that's my next trip, good luck, you'll have a blast!
First of all, you are most welcome to Thailand.
If you prefer Island life, amazing beaches and party, then I would suggest Phuket. It is the paradise island of Thailand indeed. See some ideas about Phuket through my content here below:

Have a pleasant trip!
Well, there are islands w/full moon parties etc -- and that might be what you are looking for - - the contradiction above is that you want isolation but you want to party - -
You can go to www.tripadvisor\forum\thailand
alot informations and travel guide, but i think 2 weeks is too short for you
good luck
Phuket & Phi Phi
head to Ko samui, spend a couple of days at least, head to Kho Phang nang, if your there for a full moon party its a must, head to Kho Tao, if you have never tried diving give it a go, while there explore the islands don't just sit on the beach, all 3 islands are within easy reah of each other and all slightly different also take a trip around the marine park.
alternatively head to phuket side and visit places like ko phi phi and krabi, there will always be areas with package deal set ups, live with it and get on with your holiday!
if you want try heading east from bangkok and go to ko samet and or ko chang quieter islands but still good while not as commercialised or promoted to forigners
happy travels and enjoy where ever you find yourself !
