I suppose as a guy going with a group of mates you will be looking for strip bars, cheap beer and cheaper women, Pattaya is your place!
BUT Thailand is a beautiful amazing country with so much more to offer! Why not spend 2 weeks travelling round N. Thailand instead? You wont see it all in two weeks, but you will have a much more rewarding experience.
This question is being asked often by Parents who consider visiting Pattaya with their children but they are unsure because of Pattaya's reputation. Such names as Extreme City, Sin City and others come to mind that might scare parents.
Over the past years the type of tourists visiting Pattaya has changed. Many Russian tourists and eastern Europeans are part of the landscape of visitors now. Pattaya is not only a destination for single men from around the world anymore. Russian couples and families are a large part of the tourism scene.
Pattaya has been known for over four decades for its vibrant and wild nightlife and there is no doubt that Pattaya will always make most of its revenue from the nightlife entertainment areas.
Pattaya's Nightlife and adult entertainment centers are found mostly in Walking Street and between Pattaya Beach Road to second Road. Many bars can be found on third road as well. There are other 'pockets' of nightlife and adult entertainment in some areas of Naklua and Jomtien but by far not as widespread and raunchy.

Haven't been to Pattaya since 1984 - I guess it has probably changed quite a bit since then, but we did have a good holiday.
Just a couple or 3 things to remember - the mosquitoes are man eaters (don't forget that they can be malaria carriers); there are many strip joints and just as many STD clinics; if you get picked up by a beautiful "girl" she could be a beautiful boy.
Been to Thailand a couple of times and had no problems with food poisoning - even when buying chicken from street sellers (who also sell pineapple to die for).
Shame you're not getting to spend some time in Bangkok.
Thailand as a country is a fantastic, beautiful place full of welcoming people. However, there are much better places to visit than Pattaya. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, the islands of the south. Do some research on the country and then persuade your friends to change destination.

Pattaya is a place where people go to party and meet pretty Thai ladies - there are good beaches but just to the north and a little bit to the south. Pattaya beach itself is to crowded and its only 20m from the sea.
Once you have paid for the flight then Pattaya is cheap. You can get a hotel for as little as £10 a night but have a very decent one for £20 Night. Beer is cheap about £1.50 and good food can cost as little as £2 for a meal.
If you want beautiful scenery then go to Chiang Mai, or Krabi.

Pattaya is the red light district of Thailand. The local news here is pretty horrific, it mostly includes deaths, robberies and sex tourism.
Having said that I do like it, the main part of the beach is not very special. However if you stay in North Pattaya the beach is much nicer. I would suggest staying in a high standard of hotel. There is alot to do here, with something for everyone. You can take the sleaze or leave it.
If you do go, visit the ice cream shop on walking street. It is amazing!!!
If you are going to go to Pattaya, I'd suggest staying right next door at Jomtien Beach. Try the Nirvana Couture Hotel, on Jomtien Beach Rd Soi 4. Jomtien is relatively sedate compared to Pattaya.
Pattaya is crazy and expensive. The beach sucks, as has already been pointed out. Nothing much to do but go to go-go bars, and pay for sex. Jomtien is very close by, so you can always go into Pattaya if you want to.
Pattaya is a great place for singles. Beaches are nice, lots of watersports, golfing, tourist places and great bargains around the markets. Many hot wild nitespots with thousands of beautiful ladies. Hotel prices good from 15 pound/nite. Food wonderful.
Ive been there 4 times an im only 21.
Sun, clear seas, beautiful women, cheap booze, cheap hotels, cheap designer clothes and loads of strip clubs. Pattaya is a 24hr party place, head for walking street, Simons Beer Bars really good.
i got a hotel with a swimming pool an restaurant, cost me £15 a night. The hotel was called The Holiday Mansion. If you get a chance to goto pattaya, take the opportunity. I can't wait to get back.

Never been myself but I know many people who have been and really enjoyed their time there I have film on Thailand it really is beautiful but remember it is a foreign country with its instabilities hence the recent news go with a reputable company not necessarily the cheapest have a nice time .
Crappy beach, tons of foreigners there chasing bar girls for sex. Ladyboys robbing tourists on the beach.
Check out Pattaya City News online and you will get all the news about Pattaya you want.

I have lived in Pattaya for more than two years now. During this time i have met many people of different ages who have come here for the first time not one of these people have said they would never come again they want to get back here asap
I hate the place.Only ever got in 2 fights whilst living in Thailand for 6 years.Both fights were in Pattaya and both with English people.
Like i always say -Pattaya is the s**t magnet of Thailand.
i never ever go there because it's filled with tourists. and the beaches are super dirty.
well, i'm a tourist too, but my family lives in bangkok, so i go elsewhere.
Pattaya is a tourist dump!
There are so many other beautiful places in Thailand to see.
