I have been in Phuket and Bangkok before and its cheaper in Bangkok.
I was there September 2007 but I only staid in BK for 3 days.
I was sopping clothes in both Phuket and Bangkok and the price difference are big.
Here are some examples for you:
Phuket 1 t- shirt cost between 200-300 baht,
and in Bangkok 100-250 for the same shirt.
Everything is cheaper in Bangkok just remember to make a bargain with them if they say they want 300 baht for something you can say 150 and then see if they will sell it to you.
Don't drive Taxis without taximeters because they take the triple price that a taxi whit taximeters do.
In Bangkok.you can find a god hotel room its not a luxury room but its still okay rooms for 600 baht a day, but if you are searching for hotel rooms in the popular tourists spots the price usually starts between 1200 baht a day.
And in Phuket you cant find a decent hotel room for under 1500 baht a day but if you are staying at the same hotel for many weeks you can ask for an discount.
Have a nice trip to Thailand, Phuket is just beautiful and Hua Hin to! But Bangkok is a shopping paradise.
You will be able to pay for a hotel room with air, hot water, private toilet, security box and maid service, all of your meals (if they are not in ritzy places.) With the difference you will be able to purchase around 8 to 10 tourist T-shirts if you aren't lousy with bargaining!
Hotels, restaurants, transportation and even souvenir T-shirts are pretty good bargains in Thailand! Much cheaper than you might expect!
Knock off clothing is pretty cheap, knock off movie copies are cheap (sometimes they work after you get home, sometimes not,) if you have small, Thai sized feet, you can get some good deals on footwear too!
Some of the stuff you might like and found on the streets you will have to probably bargain for. Don't be afraid to make a low offer, even if it is a third or 25% of the asking price! Street vendors size you up, if you look a little wealthier than the normal rich tourists (they consider all tourists as being rich people) the street vendors don't mind asking double or triple the value of an item! If your offer is too low you can always raise it, if you offer too much they will still ask for more but take your offer because you are probably paying too much! When you walk away you may get a better offer, also compare like items from other vendors and see what they can do.
Good luck.
Hi, if your staying in Bangkok you will be able to buy some tee shirts, some jeans, some shoes, some beads and bangles, a belt, and maybe more at the Chatuchak weekend market. This is one of the biggest markets in the world and you need at least a couple of days to get around the many stalls and shops.
You have to haggle the price, to fill your bags.
Have fun.
you can get a lot of things but check out before you buy a lot of stuff is cheap because it is cheap.i love land of smiles but some of the stuff you buy is terrible and if you want to buy good stuff say electrical you have to pay for quality then it works out about what you would have paid at home.if you wanted to buy small things likes budhas and beads etc you can pick these things up cheap
Thailand is the best place to spend your $.
Many choices, for sure.
OMG ur soooo lucky i went to thailand lastt yearr best holiday everr

if ur going to phuket buy alot there because its cheaper that bangkok :)

You didn't say whereabout in Thailand you are going to visit. if you will stay in BKK, try to get a room around Sukhumvit Road or Silom Road. These 2 roads are in the heart of BKK and also heart of business. You fill find foreigners walk on the streets every where so no worries about communication problems.
In these areas, there are hundreds of guesshouses that are clean, comfy and cozy enough for less than $50 a day. There is a Sky trian which is pretty cheap ride(around $1-2) and it can take you to 1) MBK mall which is the biggest mall for Electronic and Fashion stuff(Cameras, Computer accessories, Mobile phones, Fashion goods, Luggages etc.) and 2) JJ market - an outdoor market that you can find ANYTHING there. This market is HUGH and you will need more than one day to see it all. It's a very good place for one-spot souvinirs shopping and yet you don't have to carry them around on your trip. There are a bunch of cargo service agents in JJ market. Many foreigners bough hugh pieces of Thai craft and just pay at the market to ship it back home.
And yes, you DO need to bargain A LOT to buy stuff in Thailand. If they ask for 1,000 Baht, tell them you won't pay more than 250 Baht for that. If they say no, you could say no (gently) too and walk away. I bet you with my boss's head that they would grab your hand say "OK OK, buddy I'll sell it just for you" and rush putting the goods in a bag before you could change your mind. If they start winging in Thai, don't bother wondering if they are cursing you, just ignore it.
